Ancient cultures only drew pictures so this cannot be included in the written record.
Much of the written record is inaccurate or false.
There are many gaps in the written record.
written records were produced only by literate societies.
Which of the following would be used by the archeologist as evidences of the human past as opposed to those evidences used by the historian?

artifacts
maps
contextual clues like building walls or fire stains
Which of the following would be considered "high-tech" methods used for locating archaeological sites?
soil penetrating radar

artifacts

soil penetrating radar
aerial photography
magnetic surveys
(Okay, I'm not sure about this question, but aerial photography and magnetic surveys are done for sure.)
False
Explanations:
The ancient Greek and Romans wrote about the Celts, for example in Caesar's De Bello Gallico, but they didn't understand everything they saw and they were prejudiced just like we are today. So not everything we read there is true, but it gives an idea.
Also, written records mainly exist about the important people in history and are always influenced by the writer's opinion. So we don't know much about the ordinary people.
A lot of written records have been lost, for example in fires or floods.
Historians use written records: letters, journals, maps.
That leaves the unwritten ones to the archaeologists: artifacts and contextual clues.
I could see soil penetrating radar being able to locate structures like walls, but I'm not a native speaker, so I don't know if such thing exists.
Aerial photography and magnetic surveys can give great results. I've seen pictures.
I've not heard of soil-resistivity tests before.
When excavating a site, you are obviously destroying it at the same time, so this can only be done once. That's why many sites are left untouched in the hope that the excavation and preservation methods will improve.
Reply:A minor addendum:
Aerial photography has been used since early last century. Since many aerial photos are publicly available (from official mapping agencies and the like) they aren't going to break the small budgets unless new photos are needed. It's not as high-tech or high-budget as the other technologies.
I think magnetic surveys include metal detectors.

If Polls & Surveys was a neighborhood, how would I recognize your house? Who would be your neighbor?
I'd be the funky little metal house with all the metal orbs and appendages. My Dalek-brides would be outside, tending the lentil plantation or rolling our numerous Dalek-babies in strollers. Most neighbors would have been long vaporized by random bursts of energy shot from the numerous appendages sticking out from the roof, with only charred remnants of their houses standing in the blackened soil.
Every so often, Buk would pop by with his shopping cart, asking for work or helping scare off the Jehovah's Witnesses for Hot Pockets (TM). Ajsansker will occasionally try running into our windows, with limited success......
If Polls %26amp; Surveys was a neighborhood, how would I recognize your house? Who would be your neighbor?
my house will be a normal wooden house with a pig pen out in the back. lol... plus you'd see the Muppet show gang hanging out on the porch and Kermi watering his water hole.
to my left Lazarus will live in his house made of fire and to my right Sis Kat would live in her house made of chocolate.
Reply:I would just roam from yard to yard eating the shrubs and crapping in the streets. I'm sure that would get me several violation notices every day! Probably enough to make myself a quilt to sleep under in the winter.

My next door neighbors would be Father Centurion, Lt. Dan, hello world, Chief Paduke and Seeker-- because I really do need all the protection I can get! (I'm too nice and tend to get walked on from time to time).

I would have all modern, designer furniture and in my garage would be my purple, 1957's Corvette.

between fr gr floor room and hall wide enough to insert fingers in places. Crack is diagonal from skirting up to bay. Private survey revealed lesser cracks to bay, porch and rear ext %26amp; int wall near windows plus dishing and bow to upper gable. Suggested underpin and wallties. Private CCTV drain survey found no probs but did not explore pipe branches.Insurance co. loss adjuster found internal wall built on oversite and that crack due to differential movement, therefore insurance co. not liable. Also found fracture to clay pipe collar at junction with soil stack allowing egress of water to subsoil causing rear wall cracks. Ins co. will repair drain and monitor rear cracks before repair by helical bar insertion - no underpinning. Loss adj. at first denied liability as damage predated ins. cover with this company but I pointed out ABI Claim Handling Agreement. He also suggested porch cracks due to new uPVC doors/frame until told was first an open porch. Can anyone advise to resolve this?

Massive oil deposit found i U.S....think the Democrats will let us ACTUALLY dig on our own soil?
Massive Oil Deposit Could Increase US reserves by 10x
http://www.nextenergynews.com/news1/next...
America is sitting on top of a super massive 200 billion barrel Oil Field that could potentially make America Energy Independent and until now has largely gone unnoticed. Thanks to new technology the Bakken Formation in North Dakota could boost America’s Oil reserves by an incredible 10 times, giving western economies the trump card against OPEC’s short squeeze on oil supply and making Iranian and Venezuelan threats of disrupted supply irrelevant.
In the next 30 days the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) will release a new report giving an accurate resource assessment of the Bakken Oil Formation that covers North Dakota and portions of South Dakota and Montana. With new horizontal drilling technology it is believed that from 175 to 500 billion barrels of recoverable oil are held in this 200,000 square mile reserve that was initially discovered in 1951.
Massive oil deposit found i U.S....think the Democrats will let us ACTUALLY dig on our own soil?
The government hasn't seen Americans turning cars over and setting them on fire in the streets yet.
They haven't thought about fearing their own constituents yet.
The liberal, sandal wearing, pot smoking, tree-hugging morons don't know what's coming until it hits them that even they can't afford to be environmentally conscious.
The oil companies are full of it. They create shortages by manipulating refinery capabilities and the government stands hand in glove with them on denying licenses and permits to build any more refineries.
No one wants to drill for oil domestically when its dirt cheap to yank it out of someone else's backyard. Why? Cost of labor domestically plus cost of permits and complying with artificially increased red tape equals drilling afar as opposed to a-near.
Basic bottom line: when the consumers change their habits and make it unprofitable to import oil, they all start worrying.

North Dakota and Montana are 2 of the best places in the world to put up wind fields that will actually help to wean America off of foreign oil.
The coal companies oppose any efforts to develop wind power in those states, though, because it would cut into their markets.

I also heard that they found the biggest oil field in the world in Alaska and are just waiting for $150./barrel to start to drill. if the gov really wanted too we could convert to zero point energy tomorrow and it would be free (well almost).

Hi all. This is an Iranian website where you can find 171 new Iranian albums (Persian music),74 American, 55 Turkish and 38 Arabic albums. www.sarzamin.org I've put some of the links for Iranian songs with translations for you in here. you can just right click on the links and choose "save as" to download them.Iranian music is not Arabic or Eastern. It's a different sort of pop music.Perhaps a mixture of American, Iranian and Spanish music. So, it's unique. plz tell me what you think of Persian music after listening to them.plz don't answer before listening to at least one of them. Thanks a lot.

When at sunset, the rain hits the (window) glass
All the sadness in the world is in my chest
In the rain drops, my choked voice breaks (intrupts)
I don't want anything but a window anymore
I sit down behind this window and sing
I wait for your arrival under the rain
Under the rain, waiting for you is very different
Sounds like I love you more when it rains
Sometimes when you come, you put your head on my shoulder
You take all the sadness away from my heart
But this is only a dream, a dream behind the window (glass)
When I'm awake, sadness sits down in my throat again (I become sad again)
(Booseye Baad)(the wind's kiss)
http://www.sarzamin.org/Sarzaminmusic/Pe...
The kiss of the autumnal wind whispers to the lonely leaf unmercifully that you'll be the victim of the autumn
The new green leaf loses its green color, it drowns in the kisses of the wind and the horror of the new days
It (the leaf) abandons the tree and wanders around in the alley (becomes homeless), an alley that is the reminder of the gone and futile days
It (the leaf) sits down in the corner of the alley, stares up at the sky, thinks of the past, and feels pity for it (with sadness)
(It thinks of) the days that the alley was under my body's shade, and the kind lover tree, loved the smell of my breath so much
My share of the wind's kiss, what can I say oh my gosh, was all getting yellow-colored and faded, and dying and being forgotten
(Dastamo begir) (hold my hand)

Drizzling rain, chik chik and chick chik (the sound of raining)
Large eye and tiny tears
I'm twisting, you're budding
Your beauty dances with me
Hold my hand, there's nothing to be afraid of, once more, again
Hold my hand, I'm looking forward, I don't have anyone but you
Hold my hand(x8)
You're impatient, I'm restless
I don't want anything from you but love
I'm steebed with your love
My worthless heart is disturbed because of you
I who am a lover can't endure without you anymore
Hold my hands, I love you as much as the whole world
I can't bear it anymore
Hold my hand (x8)

I'm tired cos my eyes are so rainy
Then untill when my heart's going to be a guest in the space of sadness?
Bearing so much sadness is enough for me
Useless fight for everything is enough
When there's no use in it, why would I grieve?
Why would I simply die because of the false loves?
I don't want to paste the tag of "for sale" on my heart
I don't want to be guilty of not having a love
I don't want to go on the twistings and turns of this road aimlessly
To become a prepared log for everyone's fire
To become a low, empty and pride creature
Stop world, stop world, I'm going to get off

Because of being away from you in your fire, I'm in fire, come my friend
I won't stop praying untill my wish is made (x2)
Either my body will get to my beloved, or my soul will leave my body
Dig up the soil of my grave after I've kept my promise and look at it
From the fire within me, smoke comes out of my shroud
Reveal your visage, so that all the people become enamored and amazed
Open up your lips (talk), so that all men and women would cry out loud

(Panjareh) (the window)
http://www.sarzamin.org/Sarzaminmusic/Pe...
(Dastamo begir) (hold my hand)
http://www.sarzaminmp3.com/Sarzaminmusic...
Drizzling rain, chik chik and chick chik (the sound of raining)

Has anyone considered why there have been no further attacks on US soil since 9/11 by 'Terrorists'?
Is it because Terrorists were never responsible in the first place but more of an 'inside job'? Did anyone see the survey yesterday that showed more and more Americans are no longer buying the official line.
Has anyone considered why there have been no further attacks on US soil since 9/11 by 'Terrorists'?
To my opinion, I hate to say it, but September 11th came in perfect timing.
Americans felt no hostilities with the middle eastern nations, anti-muslim sentiment was almost zero in the US, and Bush needed to find a way to pay back Dick Cheney for the $200 million he pumped into his campain.
Ever since the time Bush Senior had pulled out, the US had no reason to go back into the Middle East and start claiming political power by tapping into the Oil Industry.
You pose an interesting question. If September 11th had taken place by Islamic radicals to send a message to America, one political in nature, then after the US responce in Afghanistan and Iraq, Americans were long overdue for an other attack.
I like to listen to the evidence more than the story, and for me, the Government and News stories just don't do a better job of convincing me than the hard facts do.
Anyway, after September 11th, anti-muslim sentiment was fuled in the US, and the US media just had a field day with pooring more gas in the fire, (FOX, CNN).
Furthermore, It gave the US military reason to go into the Middle East. However, the original story only gave the US the green light into Afghanistan.
Quickly enough, it was the new trend for politicians to start using the phrase "terrorist ties", and "terrorist links". The same nations the US would trade with regularly, (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE).. were all of a sudden sponsoring terrorism. Where there were no tensions with Iran, Iraq and Syria.. all of a sudden, we must neutralize this immediate threat to our national security.
The Bush administration tried tirelessly with the (WMD's story, Biological warfare story, Terrorist ties story, The people of Iraq want a change in power story).. and just when Americans didn't care anymore, You turned on the news to hear that the US and Iraq were at war. And, just before the 2004 election, they found Saddam!!!
What can one say, the Bush administration must really just be THAT lucky!!
Then, by taking down Iraq, nations like Iran and Syria wanted to see the US out of the middle east as soon as possible. When the U.S. extended its stay, the OPEC nations extended the price tag of OIL. The three letter word that makes the International Corporations and World Governments go round.
Seizing the moment, the U.S. started to devise a way of starting a war with Iran by creating panic over its civilian nuclear energy programme'. When the people just didn't buy it after an all too recent war with Iraq, and memories of false pretexts for war, the U.S. needed to tackle Syria.
What better way you may ask?
Can anyone spell Israel?
Israel doesn't need an excuse or a story. It doesn't need to explain why, it just needs an excuse, the U.S. takes care of everything else. The nation recieves U.S. technology and military fighter aircraft, tanks, guns, training, naval vessels, missles, bombs, and Support at the U.N. against any negative resolutions.. FREE of charge. Not to mention $16 billion a year in aid. 60% of which is spent on Israel's military forces.
Time to put all that into action?
Oh yeah!!!
In less than one month, the southern part of Lebanon and the main tourist attraction (Beirut), where remodeled by the Israeli military to make even Palestine look like a "getaway paradise".
For what reason? Stray cat crossed the border?, Muslims speak funny? Two kidnapped soldiers?
Who cares?
Look at Lebanon!!!
While the world looks at the news and ponders over how wrong these events are, the U.S. government Orgasms at the thought that Syrian and Iranian radical groups are organizing a resistance and responce to this injustice.
Who suffers? Israel, and the Rest of the Middle East along with every regular civilian in the United States.
Who gains? The United States Government, Military, Political and Socio-Economic Elites.
People that are tired of whiping their tooshies with 100's so they blow $200 million on the next election to get a no-bid contract for a job the U.S. military laid out for him, one that costs taxpayers $400 billion so that he can now take a bath in the 2000% gains on his investment.

When buying a lot in a new development what information about the lot must the developer provide to me?
I am considering the purchase of a lot in a new subdivision outside of Savannah, GA....I am concerned about the condition of the soil, drainage, the sewage situation (it will require septic), and whether or not the lot lies in a flood plane...should all of the answers to these questions be provided by the developer or must I pay for all of these surveys/info on my own? Thanks!!
When buying a lot in a new development what information about the lot must the developer provide to me?
The developer will likely provide you with a great wealth of information as to how the property can be improved (size and type of house, exterior improvements [including sewage systems], flood plan [a normal disclosure issue], etc). They will also likely provide you with a plat map but I doubt your lot will be pinned. As for soil conditions, this is a matter of opinion and would require you to do your own research.
As a Realtor I suggest you go ahead and get a pinned survey done. In the mean time don't be afraid to ask any pressing questions.
Reply:The developer may well not know the answers to your inquiries. You may find whether or not the lot lies in a flood plain by checking with the local county authorities who maintain flood zone maps. As far as the other situations are concerned, you may certainly make your offer to purchase contingent upon successful inspections results to your inquiries, but the expense will be yours to bear.

Survey: You're a TOP official & your FILE has been peeked at, what must be done to the PEEKER & the GOV'T
This a confidential file thats kept on Government soil. Do you just "FIRE" or "INTEREGATE" the peeker or BOTH?
Survey: You're a TOP official %26amp; your FILE has been peeked at, what must be done to the PEEKER %26amp; the GOV'T
The Cat requires that the peeker be releived of his catnip treats and all smoked salmon for THE REST OF HIS LIFE! The Cat has nothing to hide and is normally VERY generous. For one of his minions to Peek at his file is completely unwarranted. How DARE he/she think that The Cat have any secrets. Resistance is futile!

I heard from my friend that in the year 2028 a astride is coming in the path of our planet. RV prepared ?
Is it possible for us to make a mega structure like football ground 2 or 3 independently (colony like structure for breading purposes) in the space, were we could accommodate different intellectual people, number of scientist and astronomies, to save human race. After astride collides in earth? Description of the field should be like: -Flat surface, Lab, maximum number of sample of plants and living creature, missile, soil, drinking water in a such a way to recycle all source of energy and shielded with Big and strong thick glass spherically covered to protect and to maneuver our possession like starships provided with fuel as much is possible. Is human race will survey this? What steps have been taken so far?
I know that I will not alive so long! But what happen to us???
I believe you will answer my question.Thank you

Yawn. I can knock the asteriod off with nukes. Why don't you go and leave all your valuable possession behind for the human race.

It is an interesting question for Yahoo but don't let friends with misinformation care you.

Reply:The Earth will get hit by as ASTEROID (correct spelling) at some point in the future - that is certain. It will be a major disaster for anyone around at the time. There's nothing which can be done. Space is a dangerous place.
However, scare stories about asteroids in our lifetime are very fashionable right now, and no-one should listen to any of them.
Reply:I think your friend needs to send his Christel ball in for calibration.
Reply:No to all of the things you ask. No Asteroid will hit in 2028 and even if one was on the way, no to all the other things you said.
Before additional observations proved that asteroid 99942 Apophis would miss Earth, it was though it had a good chance of hitting in 2029. But there never was any predicted impact in 2028. Anyway, Apophis is too small to wipe out live on Earth. If it hit, it would have an effect about the same as seven Krakatoa eruptions. Bad for the people withing a hundred miles of so of the impact, and possibly causing strange weather for a few years from all the dust thrown up, but definitely nothing that would require evacuating the planet or anything like that.
Reply:Well i will be in my 50's during that time im sure our planet will have some defense for something like that or as with anything else just hope it just passess by like so many others have. Im sure you will be around too.
Reply:It won't hit us then. It'll pass by us no matter what but if it gets too close to earth's gravity it will wobble of course just enough so that when it comes back from around the sun it might hit us then.

The answer to your question has two parts.
1. Start thinking for yourself instead of believing that everything you hear from a 'friend' is true. Do some research into the subject before posting some ******** thing about saving the human race before it's too late. It's just as easy to go to NASA's websites to find scientific information as it is to come to yahooanswers and hype the end of the world.
2. NASA tracks all Near Earth Orbit asteroids. The orbital paths of these are calculated to a high degree including their approach distances to Earth. There are NONE which are going to collide with Earth in 2028. From your spelling, you seem like a young person so I will provide a website for you. You can have your parents help you.
http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/
You seem to be a smart person. Stop listening to your friends. Get your information from science websites or books. Avoid websites that are presenting disinformation about the end of the world- they are all fake. Apply your mind towards other projects. Once you learn to seperate fact from fiction, you can let go of your fears and get on with living a constructive life.
Why do people take the time to post crap like this and then leave it up for a vote???
Reply:I am going to assume that your horrible spelling and grammar is due to the fact that English is not your first language, and let it slide. A giant asteroid is not going to hit Earth anytime soon. And if it does, there is really nothing we can do about it. If it is powerful enough to destroy mankind, it will either be so because it completely destroys the Earth or because it blocks out the sun and all life perishes. In either case there is nothing we can do to stay alive.
Reply:I don't think I will alive then, either. And, after we are gone, it will not matter to you or to me. To sort of answer your question...there have already been experiments with biospheres and the like. They are still ongoing. Will this save the world? I doubt it. Humans like to think that because we are the most intellectually advanced life forms on this planet that we are somehow immune to extinction. We are not.
Reply:Yes, I have got the RV prepared. Plenty of Slim Jims and Gatorade!

I am doing a survey......Please help me out?
I AM DOING A SURVEY ABOUT PLAYGROUND GERMS. PLEASE ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS FOR ME:
1) DID YOU KNOW PLAYGROUNDS HAVE MORE GERMS THAN A BATHROOM?
2) DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE ARE HUMAN FECES, SALMONELLA, HEPATITIS A, E.COLI, SHIGELLA, STAPH, MOLDS, AND YEAST ON PLAYGROUNDS/TREES/SOIL AROUND PLAYGROUNDS?
3) HOW WOULD YOU REDUCE/PREVENT THESE GERMS?
PLEASE ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS IN ORDER (1,2,3). THIS IS FOR COLLEGE COURSE REGARDING DEVELOPEMENT. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
I am doing a survey......Please help me out?
1- Yes, I knew that, because bathrooms are periodically sanitized and playgrounds are not.
2- No, I did not know that specific fact.
3- I am trying to get my daughter into the habit of NOT touching her face, especially eyes, nose, and mouth. I also use hand sanitizer when we are done playing in public, or after we are in the store, or where ever. As far as I know, clean hands and not touching your face with dirty hands are the best way to prevent sickness.
2) Yes
3) If you have healthy children, just wash hands after play time.
If you have children with serious medical problems, don't visit the playgrounds,it would probably be best, to avoid any complications for themselves. And maybe keeping sick kids off the playground until they are better. To minimize the germs.
Now did you know that our kitchen sinks have more bacteria than our toilets! Fact
Reply:1) Yes

3) Either keep your kids from the park or make them wash their hands after they're done playing.
Germs are alllllll over! Shopping carts, light switches, remote controls, money and all sorts of everyday items we all touch.
Reply:No and No. Wow, I never knew this stuff luckly I don't really visit the playground :P. I guess I would brig hand sanitizer.

Now did you know that our kitchen sinks have more bacteria than our toilets! Fact
Reply:1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Either keep your kids from the park or make them wash their hands after they're done playing.
Germs are alllllll over! Shopping carts, light switches, remote controls, money and all sorts of everyday items we all touch.
Reply:No and No. Wow, I never knew this stuff luckly I don't really visit the playground :P. I guess I would brig hand sanitizer.

1,2 are kind of statements. but anyway...
1) no (it's kind of a random fact)
2) yes
3) live in a bubble.
Reply:alright lets begin this with a couple notes, if you look hard enough you can find anything. What I mean by this is that yes there are germs everywhere and under just the right circumstance you can find they meet the "proof above". But also note that those are specific isolated events, meaning they are not valid, they are similar to opinions. But to play along with the game...
1: There are more germs on playgrounds than in bathrooms because they are more frequently used and less often cleaned and disinfected. Not to mention that children carry many germs themselves, usually due to a curious nature and unestablished cleaning habits.
2:Strangly enough even human gas contains feces, in minute particles. And again resort to the lack of attendant cleaning on playgrounds, combined with exposure to the elements and regular use and you can very well get many things to grow that are harmful to humans.
3: To reduce the germs preventive maintance is the best factor here. Clean regularly, Perhaps put a wash bin at the Entrance/Exit, and a sign that says "Please wash your hands before and after using this playground. Help keep our playground clean". The issue is to address the problems directly, this would mean education of parents and children that use the playground, attendants that clean them, and security to ensure that the playground isn't used by those not willing to obey the rules.

3. I cant do anything except tell people this information to prevent them from going %26amp; catching anything

How do I get the best grades in these engineering classes while being present as little as possible?
This fall, I will be returning to my engineering studies in an effort to complete my degree in engineering. I would like to get a list of tips/methods to use to succeed in the following classes while earning a high grade and being present as little as possible (because of tuition costs/gas prices/missing work issues since I am required to work 40 hours per week). I must have an engineering degree in order to receive a raise at work, which is strongly related to engineering. Here are the classes:
Soil Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Determinate Structural Analysis, Civil Engineering Materials, anything surveying as far as civil engineering goes. I'd also like to possibly get tips for the classes beyond those in the civil engineering classes, as well as for the upper division/graduate level power engineering/software engineering/computer hardware engineering classes in order to succeed in those classes while maintaining my busy work schedule. Thanks!
How do I get the best grades in these engineering classes while being present as little as possible?
I guess you demonstrate the soul of an engineer in your question... it just isn't efficient to go to all the classes!
The advice I offer to anyone in school is that you figure out what it takes to get a B. You need to figure out how each class works (points wise) and how much help you need. To some extent this can help you prioritize, whether to take the easy "B" (when you see it) or bust out extra effort to get an "A".
Building a good network of friends in your education program. They can clue you in to missed lectures, advise you on the best professor choice for a class you haven't taken yet, and help you out when you need a study group.
Talk to any coworkers who've completed similar work recently and solicit advice on order of courses. If you've been out of school a while, use this summer to work on the drafting, math, programming and calculator skills that you'll need.
In your first term on campus, invest the time to meet people and learn how to get things done around there. Make friends with other commuters as well as with full-time students. Your real-world experience will be valuable to them (advice on projects, practical examples of theory, etc.), and they will know a lot more people on campus to help you out.
It also won't hurt to sniff out your boss' tolerance for doing homework on their time. This would be a great year not to participate in Fantasy Football ;)
Reply:From you question I take it that you are only interested in passing grades to get a diploma. Whether or not you learn anything doesn't seem to be a consideration. I suggest a change of career. McDonald's seems to always be hiring.

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day? (A serious survey for the soldiers)?
I recall sitting in my chair crying as the buildings came down crumbling onto the streets of New York. That was four years ago and nothing will ever be the same. I recall the Pentagon strike and the heroes who brought the plane down back east.
By the Grace of God our soldiers may be coming home next year where they belong away from an endless battle that can't be won.
Many lives have been lost and many have been changed forever during and since morning of September 11th, 2001.
Since then many Countries have grown divided. Our now divided Government has lost more trust of not only other Countries citizens, but the trust of many here in our home Country of Americas well.
Security issues have caused immigration issues turning neighbor against neighbor and brother/ sister against brother/ sister. We have more prejudices, racial issues, freedom of religion issues then ever before.
Today, take a moment to reflect what you were doing and where you were that day and how it hurt. Let's not allow our selfs ever to become complacant and desentitised to what has happened and is happening. Take a moment to say hello to someone you usually don't. Give an extra hug to your husband or wife and kids. Pray for someone you never prayed for before. Ask God to put love into the hearts of people so distant from Him. Open an ear for some who needs to talk. Help someone who needs help. Smile at someone who appears alone.
I was on a 747 three days after 9/11. We all watched the 9/11 news updates unfolding as I was on my way to meet my brother in Australia who was coming home after a couple years after working there. I remember after the 50 hours it took me to leave my door until I finally reached him due to high security. I remember the big hug we gave each other when he picked me up. I recall wondering if a war would break out and if we would get stranded there, but I figured if so he wouldn't be alone. I remember the distance I felt for those three weeks until we finally came back to our home Country of America. I was never happier to step foot back on US soil.
Every time I hear the beautiful, emotional song, "Where were you (When the world stopped spinning)" These haunting memories come back to mind. Each word is a tear in an eye. Though many of us were fortunate and did not lose a loved we can't forget or make light of the many did and still are, and the memories of them cannot be forgotten. Keep the memories alive. Tell the next soldier you see, "Thanks." Once they all come home next year we must push forwad. Remember to keep peace with each other. Let's move forward and build this country strong again. Person by person, state by state, country by country, continent by continent. We will never have world peace, but we can obtain inner-peace inside knowing that we are trying. What have we got to lose by trying to do are own little parts to fill help fill the gaps in those divisions?
This survey is not about points or stars or votes but is in honor of everyone involved.
Where were you?
Where were you when the world stop spinning on that September day?
Where Were You
(Alan Jackson)
Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Out in the yard with your wife and children
Working on some stage in LA
Did you stand there in shock at the site of
That black smoke rising against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger
In fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry
Did you weep for the children
Who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below
Did you burst out in pride
For the red white and blue
The heroes who died just doing what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself to what really matters
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love
Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Teaching a class full of innocent children
Driving down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Speak with some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out and buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day? (A serious survey for the soldiers)?
I was at work, crying for the ones that parish and praying our future.
When it hit me that I /we have no control of what was going to be next
I pick up the phone just to call my mom to say I love you ,I found my self calling other family members and friend to say the same thing I love you, a few times I got a wrong number I told them I loved them too.
Thank you Paul for reminding me, it time to make a few I love you calls.
May God bless you .
Reply:What a beautiful message! Thank you! That September day... the day that we will never forget exactly what we were doing... I was waking up late - about 2 hours after it had happened. I was by myself and turned on the TV. It took me a minute to absorb what was happening and when I realized it I just cried. I cried, and cried... I don't know if a tear will ever stop springing up when I think of that day. The world really did stop spinning as the rest of us really took a spin. It's so great to hear of people who really appreciate what the soldiers are going through and fighting for because of that day. My husband is in the Air Force. Right now we're in Okinawa, Japan and usually there are not deployments to the middle east from over here but we leave here in 8 months and I'm afraid of what will come next. I have many friends over there... 3 of which are close friends, 3 of which are husbands and fiance's of close friends. My brother is finishing up boot camp through the Army National Guard and I am afraid of what his future might be. BUT I could not be prouder of these men and what they're fighting for. I'm very proud to know these individuals.
Thanks again - none of us will ever forget that day but sometimes we need to be reminded of the huge impact and importance it still has on us today. God bless!

And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
God Bless you all and God Bless America and beyond our borders!
God bless!

Where can I find US Geological Survey maps of (nutritional) mineral deposits.?
I heard a discussion based on their map of selenium deposits, where it was mentioned that maps exist for many other minerals. If the minerals are not in the soil, they're not in the food, and simply being organic cannot overcome this. I'm curious as to the correlation of soil mineral deficiencies to certain medical conditions.
Where can I find US Geological Survey maps of (nutritional) mineral deposits.?
go to:
www.usgs.gov
They have just about every kind of map you could imagine.
Reply:I don't know but a physics prof once told me that too much selenium causes hairloss. The latest on vitamins is that they're basicly worthless unless your entire diet is nothing but rice.

What is the best way of completing these courses with the highest grade possible with the least time needed?
I am thinking about taking the following civil engineering courses this fall:
1.) Fluid Mechanics
2.) Statically Determinate Structural Analysis
3.) Civil Engineering Materials (covers concrete, asphalt, and the such)
4.) Soil Mechanics
5.) Land Surveying
I need Fluid Mechanics and the Structural course at minimum in order to graduate by December 2008. Fluid Mechanics, Soil Mechanics, Land Surveying, and Civil Engineering Materials each have a lab associated with them, so I will need to attend one lab per week in each of those classes, which can be placed on the same day. I will also need to be able to learn which problems need to be completed and be able to turn them in physically, on engineering paper, to the instructor in class.
I am trying to form a plan because I have to work 40 hours a week (flex time options) and it would help if classes were during the evenings or done via distance education, but there is no way to do that without studying on your own and...
What is the best way of completing these courses with the highest grade possible with the least time needed?
Hi:
My boyfriend is also in an engineering program and he has had trouble getting all the work done, because he has to work as well. First of all, tip from him: procrastination will kill you! wish there was an easy answer, but working 40 hours a week sounds like its going to be pretty rough...Vault and Red Bull will become your new best friends.
However, if you are willing to be hyper-organized and obsessive, you could try making a spreadsheet with 24 hours scheduled out, then schedule in all your work hours, and then sleep time (some of which you might have to sacrifice) and then schedule every available hour towards your courses (maybe an hour each course?).
Try this site to work out different ways to manage your time:

Hope this helps, and good luck :-)
Reply:Some colleges offer summer classes. They will probably be starting soon though, if they haven't already.

I want to find out GPS for land measurement that can be used for agriculture or survey?
A GPS that can be used for farm planning and assessing soil properties
I want to find out GPS for land measurement that can be used for agriculture or survey?
Trust me there are GPS programs accurate and precise enough to do surveying. I don't know where you're at, but I work for Western Farm Service (may be Crop Production Services near you) and I spend about half of my time making GPS maps for growers. I use a Trimble "AG GPS" running "Farm GPS" software. I don't know who makes the software off the top of my head, and I am not on my work computer. I am sure that this system makes acreage maps accurate to the thousandth of an acre. Assessing the soil properties is easy , just have to pay for all the processing of many samples (unless you mean using GIS to assess soil properties, which I know nothing about).
Reply:I dont think you can. The us military specifically ruled out making GPS good enough to measure down past i think about 50 foot, and land surveys need down to about a couple inches or more. Think neighbors fighting over a fence between their yards.
Reply:Two words: Google Earth.
Reply:crop dusters use gps to map out the fields they are dusting. you might be able to find something ground orientated from an ag-aircraft supplier.
Reply:Dependent upon your location, there are several diffent GPS style of instruments for doing the work that you are requiring. I have not directly used this equipment but have received the reports for fields that were measured by GPS tracking units placed on a four wheeler. Again this same type of equipment is used by surveyors for marking their points. Seek out this equipment online under GPS tracking or under surveyors equipment. With a little research you will find what you need. This equipment is accurate for most of our needs. Good luck.
Reply:A GPS can be used for agricultural measurement for the design of irrigation, stock watering etc.
although the reading may be out over the long run the error is small enough over short periods.
Surveying require accuracy's of less than a mm
The WGS84 system based on satellite and GPS technology showed errors in surveying by triangulation.
Reply:Garmin Map 76: easy to upload/download to computer, has area measurement tools, waterproof and floats! Usual real world accuracy is 5-10 metres/yards with good satellite coverage, better at certain times of the day.

What kind of tools are used for soil surveying?
please tell me what and how they are used
What kind of tools are used for soil surveying?
Well some I know of are:
Dumpy: Used to measure distances and it can be used to measure angles and elevations. It is actually one of the oldest there is.
Tilting: Is mainly used to measure elevations. It has a drawback because in some you see things upside down.
Automatic: Like the tilting is used to measure elevations but is a lot faster and more convenient.
My favorite though is the total station like the name says is total. It measures elevations, distances, angles and all digital. It uses a prism to which it sends a signal and measures the time it takes to travel from one place to the other to measure distance.

What are some uses for a soil survey?
Mainly it's to dertimine the composition of the soil. Soil Surveys determine ground water problems as well. i.e. drainage issues, acidity, contamination. Also they can help determine the stability of the soil for building purposes.

Dear Raymond,
Your pertinent question and urgent curiosity has unfortunately, been buried under more legitimate concerns. If you don't get an answer within 24 hours, it is best to delete your query and ask again.
Raymond, I would like to take this opportunity to express my personal opinion. You have been foolish, Raymond. Very, very foolish. Anyone can see that the purpose of Yahoo! Answers is to serve as a modern chatroom. More and more, Java programming is becoming less and less supported, there is no other method of bringing people together in a social environment than to create PHP scripts where the "thinking" can be done on the server rather than on your machine. With that in mind, Raymond, you should interrogate the shallow-minded participants of Yahoo! Answers with matters that appeal to their common denominator. Questions such as, "How long is the normal tally whacker?" or, "My boyfriend says I should dump my hubby, what you think?"..., would get you a substantial number of replies.
Give up your pursuit of truth and petty wonders, Raymond. Quit asking bland, colorless questions. Are you naive? No person who is capable of giving you the answer you hoped for can last while reading though a heap of puddings, pies and pastry. I'm only doing you a favor, Raymond, by giving you a proper admonishment you can now begin to formulate an apology. When you are ready, send your atonement to http://surveys.yahoo.com/user_ad_feedbac...
And Raymond, if you insist upon asking serious questions, remember that a few good jolts from a peace officer's tazor should bring you around to your senses. Please, check your spelling and throw some slang into the mix so you don't offend any of the egos lurking, waiting to pounce on you with crass, thoughtless one-liners.
Thank you Raymond, and have a great day!
