Wasps!! help pls..?

The corridor outside my apartment is lined with lots of potted plants that my mom and I have planted carefully... But for the past week or so, we noticed a few wasps surveying our pots. Then two days ago, we had a shock! They were digging into the soil in our pots!! What do we do?? My mom doesn't want to call the pest busters for this, saying that it's a small problem. Anyone have any proper ideas? Thanks so much..

Wasps!! help pls..?
It is a small problem. Wasps usually have rather small nests, with no more than 30 or so on the largest. Most have about 6-10 wasps.

Sprays for wasps work very well if you can get near enough to them, but they tend to be a little antsy about sprays.

Thankfully, wasps are slow moving, and the small numbers mean that you have a good chance of killing them all in a number of ways.

I;'ve had a lot of luck with a spray nozzle on a hose. Put it on full blast, keep the spray gentle, and water the lawn. When you see a wasp, shoot it down on full blast. It won't be able to move much for several minutes, and you can step on them. Do it hard though, they mush down on the lawn.

I've also used a small old tin frying pan to knock them out of the sky. On pavement, they're much easierto squash.

Try getting some nylon netting to cover the soil on the pots.
Reply:Wasps will not harm your plants. I see a lot of them in my yard each spring. I also see them eating the bugs and caterpillars on the plants. Unless they build a nest, I would leave them alone and let them eat all the plant eating creatures that they can.
Reply:Buy a can of wasp killer and spray it on the few wasps yourself.
Reply:The wasps must be mud wasps looking for dirt. I would relocate your pots to an area out of the walkway so you and your neighbors don't get stung. You can try killing them but there will always be more. In my area wasps build paper nests from plant fiber usually on the eves of houses.
Reply:Proper way in dealing with this is Sevin dust. Just dust your plants down good and the wasp will get in on their feet when they visit and when they clean them self they will ingest the dust killing them. It will also take care of the other insects that like your plants. You can get the sevin dust at any farm or garden supplier.
Reply:They hate smoke. A fire extinguisher should do the trick temporarily, if they are too aggressive to let you get near their nest in order to install some other kind of pest control.

I have also heard of people catching one and putting it in the freezer, that way they can tie a string to it and follow it back to the nest. If it gets cold where you live, its best to just wait until it gets cold and tear down the nest when they are gone.
Reply:look 4 da hive or nest and nok it down w/ H2O frum da hose %26amp; if ur brave enuf step on da hive or nest wile its on da ground. den del leave in a cupl of days. good luk!
Reply:You can use insecticide spray. Just spray the soil a little. That should do it. Good luck!
Reply:You must purge the unclean wasps from the face of the planet with Cleansing fire!!! BURN BURN BURN the unclean ones!

Oh... Um, sorry I lost myself there for a moment. Try the smoke thing, that might work?
Reply:Mothballs perhaps? Be sure to bury them in the pot, just under the soil. The wasps should still be able to smell them and it should keep them away. You don't want to just lay them in the pot; children like to put things in their mouths after all. Animals too for that matter may decide they don't smell that bad and try to eat one.

Failing that you might check out the garden department in your local Home Depot or other such store. They likely have insect repellant that would work.
Reply:I know this sound crazy but is there anywhere you could hang a ziplock bag of water. Just plain water, then zip the bag. I like in the south and that is what some store uses to keep wasp away. It would be a cheap way to get rid of them if it works. I haven't tried it but I have heard it really works. They hang it near doors too so the wasp won't go into the store.
