Subsidence. 88yrs old widowed aunt has 1926 3bed semi; stone clad front since 1976. Has a cracked inside wall?

between fr gr floor room and hall wide enough to insert fingers in places. Crack is diagonal from skirting up to bay. Private survey revealed lesser cracks to bay, porch and rear ext %26amp; int wall near windows plus dishing and bow to upper gable. Suggested underpin and wallties. Private CCTV drain survey found no probs but did not explore pipe branches.Insurance co. loss adjuster found internal wall built on oversite and that crack due to differential movement, therefore insurance co. not liable. Also found fracture to clay pipe collar at junction with soil stack allowing egress of water to subsoil causing rear wall cracks. Ins co. will repair drain and monitor rear cracks before repair by helical bar insertion - no underpinning. Loss adj. at first denied liability as damage predated ins. cover with this company but I pointed out ABI Claim Handling Agreement. He also suggested porch cracks due to new uPVC doors/frame until told was first an open porch. Can anyone advise to resolve this?

Whoa. I don't think Yahoo Answers is the place for solving a problem this serious. Please consider paying for professional advise from a structural engineer.

Reply:i have done loads of under pinning not pleasant work you can only work a mtr at time.i can believe about the substrata its on some Ive done have been 2 storey built on topsoil you have to excavate to a good substrata could be 6ft down.they ask for test holes first.but when you mentioned corner of bay down this could be caused by the lintel if its a rsj when mettle rusts it peels and swells it is capable of lifting brickwork believe me Ive seen some lifted with just an angle iron lintel a full 50mm gap.its just a thought but it could be something the engineer as overlooked
Reply:I think your looking in the wrong place for help with this issue. You probably need an engineer to look at the problem. There is no way to diagnose a problem like this by writing a one paragraph story. Also if your having problems with insurance claims you may need to see a lawyer. Like I said your problem is beyond the capability of this forum.
